This post is to learn more about the spay/neuter legal agreement. I will inform you if your puppy will go home with one before you reserve him/her. I hope these frequent ask questions help you better understand the agreement. :)

Deadline?

I will provide you a deadline of when the puppy must be spayed/neutered before you reserve the puppy. Which tends to be the following:

  • Puppy: by 7 months old

  • Adult: within 2 months of adopting the adult

May I have an extension? Since my vet can not squeeze us in.

I am sorry, but this is not a valid reason for an extension.

Why? Because I have informed you of this spay/neuter legal agreement before you reserve the puppy/adult. I sent an email with the link to further explain this agreement when you were approved. I reminded you of this deadline at the time of pick up. You sign the legal agreement stating you understood this agreement. Therefore I have informed you at least 4 times before you even take the puppy/adult home.

This is the responsibility of the owner to call the vet right away and schedule an appointment. Most of my families inform me the appointment is already scheduled when they are picking up the puppy.

I have been with my vet for  (insert years of being with the vet). He/she is booked or away for vacation and can not perform this. May I have an extension?

This is not a valid reason as well. Since if you are adopting a puppy, you have 5 months to have him/her fixed. If you are adopting an adult you have 2 months. The majority of vets are not booked out that far. My vets are available within 2 weeks to a month. I use this information to set a reasonable deadline.

If for any reason, they are booked that far ahead, there are other vets you may schedule an appointment with.

I am going to wait for a little longer (after the deadline). I am fine with losing the deposit ($300).

As mentioned in the legal agreement, failure to neuter/spay the dog before the deadline will result.

  • us getting the puppy back

  • No refund is given

Therefore not spaying/neutering the puppy/dog is not an option. Unless you no longer want to keep the doggie.

If for any reason, we provide an extension the following will apply:

  • The deposit will no longer be refunded. You will lose this. Why? because we did provide plenty of time to have him/her neutered.

  • We will provide a new deadline. We will not extend the deadline again. This means if you fail to fix the doggie by the deadline, you will lose the doggie (we get the puppy back) and no refund is given.

How long will it take for me to receive the deposit back?

This is typically done right away. I refund the deposit by using Venmo, the Cash app, or a US Money order. I will ask you which option you prefer to receive the deposit back.

MUST BE IN THE RECEIPT /CERTIFICATE TO BE CONSIDERED VALID PROOF

  • Breed

  • Color

  • Date of Birth

  • Gender

  • Microchip Number we gave the puppy/dog

  • All this information must be typed in by the veterinarian. Not handwritten.

HOW DO I SEND THE VALID PROOF?

Conclusion:

I hope these questions help you better understand the spay/neuter portion of the legal agreement.

As always, God bless and Go Tigers!
